If you love horse riding one of the best places go that’s close to Sydney is Glenworth Valley.
Just over an hour north of the Sydney on the freeway to Newcastle, Glenworth Valley is close enough for a great day trip.
Set amid a sprawling lush bushland property, Glenworth Valley offers guided trail rides with friendly horses to suit all levels. (Plus if you’re an experienced rider, they will usually let you roam about the property on your own so you’re not set back by the beginners).
They also do a gourmet picnic ride a few times per year – a three hour ride that includes a picnic lunch and wine and nibbles at the homestead afterwards.
We usually try and go at least once per year and pay a visit to our favourite horse-friends. Plus, we love that you can continue the outdoors experience and camp on the property.
Camping-wise, there’s plenty of room and they tend to keep families to one side so everyone is happy.
Also, if you stay the night you get to experience the running of the horses. After each day of being faithful steads, the horses are let loose into the paddock and to see them gallop (or plod) down the hill and let loose is a sight and experience to behold. It’s pure happiness.
Glenworth Valley offers plenty other activities other than horse riding, like kayaking, quad biking and lots more. It’s worth checking out if you’re an outdoors fan or if you have kids to entertain.
